Ugandans recognized for their contribution to the United Kingdom

At least five Ugandans were recognised by King Charles III’s wife Camilla for their dignified contribution to the United Kingdom.

The individuals were recognised at a reception hosted by the King and Queen to celebrate the UK’s Commonwealth Diaspora.

A media statement said: “On October 2, the King and Queen hosted a reception at St. James’s Palace, London, to celebrate the Commonwealth Diaspora based in the United Kingdom, ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa in November.”

“Amongst the 300 well-known guests were prominent Ugandans nominated by the Republic of Uganda’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.”

Those recognised included Mr. Moses Mulimira, who was hailed for his contribution through the UK’s National Health Service to the Uganda UK Health Alliance.

Mr. William Mutenza was recognised for his involvement in organising the annual UK Africa Business Summit, which bridges business across Uganda, Africa, the Middle East, and the UK.

On the list was Primrose Segala, a nurse in the UK’s National Health Service specialising in diabetic optometry.

Also present was Lord Jitesh Gadhia, who was originally from Jinja and was recognised for his prominent involvement with the British Asian Trust.

The reception was also attended by the Duchess of Edinburgh, the Duke of Kent, Baroness Scotland (Secretary General of the Commonwealth), and David Lammy (the United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary).

“The Ugandan guests joined other representatives from organisations associated with the Commonwealth, as well as supporters of the King’s Trust International and the British Asian Trust, two charities founded by His Majesty as Prince of Wales and which operate in the Commonwealth,” the media statement noted.

In her speech, Amb. Madhvani, the Uganda High Commissioner to the UK, said: “The Ugandan diaspora in the United Kingdom, including Ugandan Asians, comprises some 200,000 people, both Ugandan citizens and those of close Ugandan ancestry. I am pleased that we were so strongly represented at Their Majesties’ Reception in London prior to their travelling to Samoa in November for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.”
