Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club’s newly signed midfielder Emmanual Wasswa is hopeful he will return to better shape after undergoing surgery on his left knee.
The player who was signed from rivals Sports Club Villa, ruptured the left anterior cruciate ligament during training at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.
Wasswa underwent successful surgery at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala and is currently recuperating at his home in Nkumba along Entebbe road.
“I have undergone successful surgery on my knee and I am now undergoing recovery. I want to thank everyone that has given me the needed support during this period and I will come back stronger.” He said.
Recovery is expected to take about four months as the player undergoes post-operation physiotherapy to bring his legs back to their normal working order.
KCCA made an official announcement of the arrival of the midfielder in August via their website after his former club SC Villa also confirmed his departure. Wasswa is a former Uganda Premier League winner with Vipers, a feat he achieved as a teenager.
The midfielder has played for Nkumba University, Ndejje University, Sports Club Villa and Vipers. The player comes from a family famous for football. His father, Ssalongo Kayizzi played as a Uganda Airlines goalkeeper and Uganda Cranes before retiring.
“I thank everyone that assisted in this operation starting with my immediate family, KCCA Football Club, friends and the fans. It is a stead-fast recovery process and I know I will return a better player” he said.
Wasswa is one of KCCA’s new signings having joined the club in August 2021 after penning a three-year contract that will expire in 2024. Aside from pitch football, the midfielder is also an ardent beach soccer player. He was part of the national beach soccer team dubbed the Uganda Sand Cranes at the 2021 AFCON beach soccer finals in Senegal.
The team finished fourth during the AFCON beach soccer finals and Wasswa was nominated among the very best African beach soccer players.
During his days at Nkumba University, the 6.1ft soccer star played in the University Football League (2015-2018) and his performances during the league caught the attention of manager Morley Byekwaso who became interested in him joining KCCA.
